The NFRC Earns ILA Honor Award for the 18th Year!

 The NFRC was awarded the International Literacy Association (ILA) Honor Award for exceptional service to literacy and the community.  The award was presented at the New York Reading Association (NYSRA) April meeting.  Congratulations to all involved in this rewarding honor!

ILA Honor Council Status Awarded to the NFRC for the 2019-2020 Year

Congratulations to the NFRC on their receipt of the International Literacy Association (ILA) Honor Council Award.  This prestigious award recognizes the NFRC for supporting ILA goals.


The NFRC Does It Again!

Congratulations to the NFRC on their receipt of the International Literacy Association (ILA) Honor Council Award. Niagara Frontier Reading Council is proud to have received this award again for the 2018-2019 year, making this the 17th year we have received this award! This year, only four local councils in New York State received honor council designation. This is an incredible accomplishment.
The Honor Council Award annually recognizes councils that organize and conduct well-rounded programs serving the council members, the community, the state/provincial council, and the International Literacy Association. Councils are recognized for accomplishments of the previous year. The application required submitting summaries and proof of meeting the following criteria:
Service to Council Members
  • Website/Social Networking- thenfrc.org, NFRC Facebook page and Twitter account
  • Newsletter-The Spotlight digital newsletter
Community Literacy Project
  • Buffalo Zoo Earth Day Book Giveaway
  • Habitat for Humanity Book Project
  • Liaisons across many WNY school districts
Worldwide Literacy
  • Contribute to Dominican Republic Mission Outreach by providing materials, funds to purchase school supplies.
  • Donate an ILA membership to assist with professional growth.
Additional requirements included:
  • All officers and board members are ILA members
  • Host a Membership Campaign- Western New York Children’s Book Expo Membership Event
  • Submit a Long-Range Plan
  • Hold council meetings
