Meet Ms. Theresa Ruggirello
Title/Postion: RtI Math Grades 3-5
School or Career: Regan Intermediate School (Starpoint Central School District)
Grade Level(s) Taught: K-5 Reading, 3-5 Math
What is your favorite teaching moment?
When students are excited about learning and you know because they are discussing, problem solving, and persevering though it. The students I work with struggle through many concepts and when they have that “aha” moment they light up with joy. They continue to challenge themselves because they know they have the ability to do it.
Why did you become a teacher?
I truly believe it is my calling. Ever since I can remember I have wanted to become a teacher. I love learning and sharing my passion and knowledge with others. It is my goal to instill a passion for lifelong learning and for students to walk away with the tools they need to succeed.
What is your role with the NFRC?
Currently, I am on the board of Directors and the Audit Chair. I am thrilled to start the 2015-2016 term as the Vice President for Programming.
Why do you enjoy being a member of the NFRC?
As an NFRC member I am able to obtain relevant and engaging professional development and connect with other professionals who are passionate about literacy and education.
Tell us some fun facts about yourself.
I am getting married August 8, 2015, recently bought my first home in the Town of Tonawanda, Volunteer for the North Tonawanda Youth Board, and I mentor graduate students in the UB’s Summer Literacy Program at Maryvale Primary.
How many years have you been an NFRC Member?
I have been a member of the NFRC for 3 years.
