Meet Mrs. Christan O'Leary

Title/Position: Reading Specialist
Grade Level(s) Taught: Grades K-8
What is your favorite teaching moment?
My favorite teaching moment was when my students come back to me after several years and share how much they have learned from me and how much they loved my class, even though I pushed them to work to their fullest potential.
Why did you become a teacher?
I became a teacher because I always wanted to be a teacher! It was either that or a nurse. I couldn't stand the thought of blood, and so I decided children were the better option!
What is your role with the NFRC?
My role this year is the Recording Secretary. Next year, I am the Vice President of Programming.
Why do you enjoy being a member of the NFRC?
I enjoy being a member because it provides opportunities for PD, collaboration, with colleagues and insights into the reading world.
Tell us some fun facts about yourself.
I love to garden, there is something about watching something that you have planted grow and blossom, that is so magical. It is parallel to watching children in your classroom, and over the course of the year you see how your students change and grow. I have two daughters, who are Irish dancers, my husband is a Buffalo Firefighter, and yes...my last name is O'Leary!
