Reading Specialist: Retired 7 years
School: Albion Central School District
Grade levels: K - 8 over the time I was teaching, I was responsible for plenty of staff development at the K- 12 grade level. I was a grade level coordinator at times.
Favorite Teaching Moment: During an early morning before school 3rd grade reading program we called "Sunrise Scholars" (not the best students in the world). I had invited parents to come in any morning and read a really quick, short, fun story to the group, maybe a dozen or so students. A dad, whose son I loved, but who was nearly impossible to deal with on any school day, and who as a parent spent absolutely no time with any school activities, offered and came to read. I won't forget it.
Why a Teacher? I kind of always, always, always wanted to be a teacher. In my "era' it was teacher, nurse, or secretary. I wouldn't be a good nurse at all, and I'd be bored as a secretary.
Role with the NFRC: I currently run the NFRC Store. I am a past Board Member, SPOTLIGHT Editor, VP Programming, President, and Mini-Grant Chair.
Why DO You Like Being and NFRC Member? It's a breath of fresh air, kept my professional sanity, confirmed what I believed, and I get to network with like minded colleagues.
